Mr MacDermott says the bill will not have the desired effects of reducing delay in criminal cases, reduce costs and prevent witnesses having to give evidence more than once. He explains the current committal procedure in the magistrates' court. Mr McDermott says this operates as "a very important filter" to remove weak or flawed cases. He says the main cause of delay in criminal cases is at the investigation stage and there is a myth that lawyers drag out cases to increase their fees but, in fact, there is a set fee. Yesterday we were the proud sponsors of the Inspire Disability Services Golf Classic in Omagh Golf Club. The Golf Classic was in aid of a particular facility in Omagh, namely Mulhern Close, a residential facility for adults with learning difficulties and special needs. The fundraiser was to raise money for a sensory garden for the residents. The weather was great and the craic was good. As main sponsors we thank you everyone who donated to this great cause and thank all who organised and participated in this event. Read More: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/spring-budget-2017-documents/spring-budget-2017  Following an initial talk to trainee estate agents at Lisburn SERC in November 2016 Orla was invited to attend the Bangor campus of SERC on the 31st January to give a talk to trainee estate agents on the conveyancing process.
The presentation entitled “Sale agreed to release of keys… and what happens in between”, provided the estate agents with a better understanding of the processes, hurdles and solutions that are encountered in residential sales and purchases. It was an Informal but Informative evening which concluded on a useful discussion of how the conveyancing process can be improved for the benefit of all parties, most importantly, the client. The Property Investors Network (PIN) then invited Orla to speak to their members at the Culloden on 7th February on the conveyancing process, where again the information provided was well received and remarked by the organiser as “a talk you will certainly not want to miss”.  We have a team!! In aid of BSA ‘s nominated health charity Inspire, a team of 4 from the office are taking part in this year’s relay.
